Here’s the artwork that I just completed for Reax Magazine’s cover contest for their “Superbowl Extravaganza” issue. We’ll see if it makes the cut. I’m not much of a football fan, but the Superbowl is being hosted in Tampa again this year, so I thought I’d represent with this crazy, monster face football head. A bit different from my normal work, but it was a fun piece to try out. If you are a Florida artist and you have some time this week, put something together and send it to reax@reaxmusic.com.

Thanks to everyone who came out the Dobre Den opening reception on Saturday! The exhibit is on display until Saturday the 20th so stop by between noon and 6:00PM to check it out.
You can also buy the very limited edition Dobre Den print here.
Here are some pictures from the opening. Special thanks to John Pirone for the great shots – as always!

The guys over at REAX are holding a contest to design the upcoming Super Bowl Extravaganza issue. The best design will grace the cover and the top 10 designs will be featured inside.
REAX distributes about 25,000 copies across Central Florida. It’s great exposure and will look impressive in your portfolio. The deadline is Friday but if you have time, you should submit your football-inspired designs to reax@reaxmusic.com immediately.

Wow, been a crazy couple months planning for and opening the Back in Black T-Shirt Exhibit with Joshua Smith of Hydro 74. Meanwile, I’ve also been doing a ton of client work and I’ve just realized that I haven’t posted any in a while. I’ve been collaborating with Hydro on some projects for Vans, Joker Brand, Teck Deck, and Christian Audigier lately. Also, got a few new shirts coming out for Iron Fist and I did some work with a dope, new international clothing company called Hizoku. PS. If you haven’t seen the Deck Peck site yet, go check that out. I just put up some new skate decks for sale. Pretty dope site. I wanna get a bunch of decks from here. They would make cool Christmas presents if you hurry.

There were so many good fights this weekend. They reconfirmed some things I already knew…Pacman is an absolute beast and Badr Hari is an absolute lunatic (but no less badass).
I also saw the walking freak show, Hong Man Choi lose (again) in a K-1 kickboxing match. But to be honest, he’s been fighting guys that were way out of his league like the mighty Fedor. Plus, he’s been out of action for a few months after joining the Korean army and being released due to a brain tumor found during his medical evaluations…so it will take a little bit of time to get back that killer instinct.
Anyways, if you didn’t know, the Japanese are more into extreme body types than us Americans. They love the Hong Man Choi and so do I! So I was deeply saddened to read that the 7′2″, 350 lbs. Korean told his fans on his blog that he wanted to die and start over again because of the way people judge him by his appearance. It was heartbreaking…where would our world be without Andre the Giant, Yao Ming, Sloth from the Goonies, etc.
So going forward, I will no longer judge a book by its cover (or at least for the next week). Because life would pretty boring if we were all the same boring.
SUPPORT HONG MAN CHOI!

Next weekend is an art extravaganza! If you weren’t invited to Charlie Crist’s wedding either, you should come out to the “By The Light Of The Holiday Moon” Art Show featuring art by Blue Lucy this Friday. Not only are these guys good friends and amazing people, they are very talented artists whose love of pop culture is apparent in their work. They have been such a positive influence on the Tampa Bay art scene, and their art projects optimism and hopefulness that brings smiles to people’s faces (Yep, nothing like the Pale Horse).
The show is at Simple Living Home (just 2 blocks from our joint) starting at 6:00 PM. Come check it.

Then on Saturday, check out the “Dobre Den” Selected Works of BASK at Pale Horse starting at 8:00PM.
Pale Horse Presents Dobre Den – Selected Works of Ales “BASK” Hostomsky
Locally-based, yet internationally recognized, BASK’ work has been showcased in museums, featured in galleries and thoughtfully placed on street corners throughout the country over the last decade. Best known for his grand collaborations with artists like Tes One, Derek Hess and Sarah Gail Hutcherson, Dobre Den (“good day” in Czech) showcases a collection of BASK’ selected works created within the past year and brand new installations made just for this show.
In this exhibit, this Czech-born, American vandal uses mixed media to present politically motivated, “anti-iconic” characters and themes influenced by early communist propaganda (seen as a child in Czechoslovakia) and corporate advertising that plagues our American landscape. Scavenged from lawns and alleyways, discarded panels and walls are given new life to tell a story about pop culture’s new conspiracies and contradictions to expose the real messages in our mass media.
OPENING RECEPTION: SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13TH FROM 8PM – 11PM
On display until December 20th – Monday through Saturday from noon – 6PM.
