"Back in Black" Apparel Artist Exhibit Book!

Hydro74 & Pale Horse recently put on a event with 20 well known designers printing shirts for one night. This book is a collection of the work and that night. Only a handful of these will be printed since they are purely marketing books for the next Back in Black event. The book will be available March 13 and shipped shortly before hand with the pre-orders. Click here to get your hands and one of these very limed collector books. Oh yes, there is another Back in Black show on the horizon…

Acrassicauda: We Salute You

By Michelle

Chris and I joke that we are “part-time thrashers,” like accountants that wear suits during the week but throw on their leather jackets and jump on the Harley on the weekends. But since we were young, we’ve always had a love for all things loud.

Lucky for me, my parents moved us to the Death Metal Capital of the World when I was a pre-teen and my first Florida friends were dirt rockers with metal crushes on Slayer, Iron Maiden and Carcass. In Tampa, loving and living metal is easy…especially when your neighbor could be in Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, Morbid Angel, Brutality, etc.

So last year when I saw VICE’s documentary on the Iraqi metal band, Acrassicauda, called “Heavy Metal in Baghdad,” I was moved by their adversity and resolve. I made all my friends that came over to the house watch it. The four dudes in this band learned English listening to Metallica, practice for hours each day with no shows to play, and risk their lives (from bombs and death threats) for the love of the double bass. This was the true example of the “audacity of hope.”

Then last week, Matt Potasky, called me to tell me that Acrassicauda were granted refugee status in the US (after seeking refuge in Syria and Turkey for the last couple years) and were relocating to New Jersey (15 minutes from where I grew up). The New York Times even chronicled their story and their second concert ever, Metallica, in Newark.

I think I might cry.

If you haven’t seen it, go check out “Heavy Metal in Baghdad.” Regardless of whether you listen to metal, this movie is really about the longing for freedom, the strength of friendship, and the atrocities of war on every day, innocent people…all put to a metal soundtrack.

As Acrassicauda says, “let the metal unite us, let the metal rule.”

BTW…Happy Valentine’s Day. I wish this for all my friends (well, just my friends with penises):

Framed Prints for "Print Ready" Show Tonight

Pale Horse Prints

Just dropped off a selection of framed canvas prints for the print ready art show at Nova 535 going on tonight. Got a couple new ones in there and a few classics. I’ll post some photos from the opening later. This is a quick shot of the pieces I’m putting in the show. If you’re in the Tampa Bay area come by and say hi. Hydro 74 and I as well as a bunch of other artists like Erik Jones and Brandon Dunlap will be hangin’ out and getting wasted I’m sure.

New T-Shirt Collaboration with Jimiyo

Chris Parks and the very talented, Jimiyo just finished a new collaboration tee, called “Rhanga.”

I love this dude’s work so I wanted to see what we could do if we mixed our styles. This piece is inspired by Balinese mythology and general “badassness.” I’m really happy with the way it came out.

If you are feeling it, go VOTE for it at Design By Humans NOW!

You should also check out Jimiyo’s website. He posts regular Photoshop tutorials and stock vector sets too.

P.S. Just put up the pre-order for an 18×24in. archival art print of this piece. Get it now before it starts shipping and save $5.

Ultimate Fight Night

By Michelle

This weekend Chris, our friend, Cory, and I went to see the UFC at the Sundome (see Josh…only the UFC has an “octagon”). Initially, we bought the tickets for my niece, Kirstie, for Christmas. But she got sick…the real kind of sick with fever and nausea…so Cory took her place.

Cory was Baby Parks’ (Chris’ little brother) good friend and band mate. And in the last couple years, since he moved to Tampa for school, he’s become our good friend too. He’s smart, polite and a genuinely caring person. But I don’t always approve of his lifestyle…like wearing the same pants every fucking day, eating ice cream cake from the garbage or trying to steal from the CiCi’s Pizza’s supply truck but passing out drunk in the street instead. Nevertheless, we are family so we love him unconditionally.

We were excited he could come with us to the fights and once again, he did not disappoint. Less than 24 hours earlier, he got his face slashed open at a show by a guitar…ummm, gross!

Anyways, it was super fun even though Chris and Cory were a little bummed their boy lost.

We ended the night at Mema’s Alaskan Tacos in Ybor and Matt Potasky (who we met up with later) wanted to make sure I told everyone that the bean bowl was too small and he was still hungry. :(

Print Ready Art Show

I’ll have some new stuff in the Print Ready Art Show at Nova 535, along with fellow artists (and friends), Brandon Dunlap, Eric Jones, Red Labor, Joel Cook and more. Thanks to Bessie Arts for putting this show together. See you Thursday night.
