Welcome to Atlanta and MMA

This weekend Chris and I (I being Michelle) double-dated with my best friend, Mary and her husband, Alan at UFC 88 in Atlanta. For those of you that don’t know, I’m a “MMA nerd.” Ever since I was in high school, my friend Phil and I would rent UFC videos. Then in college, we would wait days trying to download K-1 and Pride fights from Japan. I forgot about it for a while. But when I started my new business, I was working from home. Working at home sucks because it is sooooo (with a million o’s) lonely…next thing I knew, YouTube reinvigorated my <3 of fighting.

So this weekend, I went to my first UFC live. All in all, it was a good time.

But I’ll share with you the moments that stand out:

1. The girl sitting behind me was a repulsive beast who sounded like a dying animal whenever she cheered. She would also spout out shit in spanish and the language never seemed so disgusting. Luckily, the DB next to her started telling her how “if [he] wasn’t married, she would be the type of girl he would hook up with.” This kept her busy for the next 1-2 hours…so maybe there is a god…nah.

2. There was a fight between Dong Hyun Kim (some Korean dude) and Matt Brown…Matt Brown is that guy from the Ultimate Fighter that they made out to be some badass motherfucker (even though he’s not) so of course, he is the crowd favorite. The problem is that the crowd chooses to chant “USA” not “Brown” and boos Kim after he wins (by split decision). This ignorant display of nationalism makes me want to puke and it’s the reason why the rest of the world is leaving us behind. Get over it fuckers…the Chinese gymnasts won gold and the Yakuza is way scarier than the Sopranos.

3. Throughout the weekend, there were well known fighters all over the hotel and I’m well known for not getting star struck. My level of apathy can actually be surprising. But it was Saturday night and I was catching the elevator up to the room when I saw Hayato Sakurai…all the way from Japan. I have to admit, I was pretty stoked. When I told Alan, he said that he worked out next to that guy in the hotel gym that morning. My friend kinda “trained” with “Mach”…fuck yeah.

Anyways, I’m going to start helping Chris keep this blog current. It’s hard to get him into any program other than Illustrator. Thanks for reading.
